Takuma Yamazaki graduated from Tama Art University and joined Canon as a product designer in 2015. He has enjoyed new discoveries in Hokkaido’s nature ever since childhood and spent days thinking about the distance between man and nature.

This project explores and represents the precious relationship between human and nature by:
#01: Maintaining the original shape of the natural material,
#02: The biodegradable material that returns to the earth and becomes a new resource,
#03: The uniqueness of the material character that specific season bestows.
The idea behind Bio-Vide project is that how I as a designer could embed the feeling of ‘life’ that we have lost these days in the consumerist culture, with the raw and original characters of living things in a shape of the contemporary products.
The sheet of fallen leaves is made through the process of layering and hot-pressing, and this method can produce the sheet in a variety of thickness. A table and a chair made out of the pressed leaves vividly reminds of us the idea that the material returns to the earth. We can imagine the characteristics of the leaves in each stage of its life cycle, from fresh leaves to when it falls to the ground (and finishes its life).
A kit that amplifies the sound of the pencil, adding a new, musical dimension to drawing/writing.

By amplifying the faint noises created by the friction between pencil and paper, this project represents a new way of communicating with stationery. I reflected on the meaning of drawing, and discovered that stationery can be not only writing instruments, with the purpose of leaving visual information, but also musical instruments. By redefining stationery as creative tools for drawing sounds, this pencil offers a fresh creative experience for both people who are sighted and those who are not.

A QR Hanko for our online data goes after we die.

Over the last several months, major Japanese financial institutions have begun phasing out the use of hanko, the equivalent of a personal seal. Having been widely adopted during the late 1800s, hanko had surprisingly maintained its relevance in the face of technological change and has always been a requirement for opening bank accounts, signing contracts and almost any official paperwork. But with the winds of change comes the opportunity to rethink and redesign.
Although they’re becoming obsolete, hanko, to this day, remain an integral part of Japanese culture. Many adults were probably gifted a hand-crafted hanko by their parents that they continue to cherish. So instead of doing away with them completely, can we find another place for them?( cited from Spoon &Tamago )
That was essentially the thinking that drove product designer Takuma Yamazaki to create this prototype for a QR code hanko. A QR code, if you don’t know, is a type of bar code that actually originated in Japan. It can be embedded with all sorts of personal and public information, which can be pulled up simply by scanning it. In response to the other technological dilemma of where our online data goes after we die, Yamazaki believes the answer can be found in hanko.
Yamazaki envisions hanko as being a tool to connect the living and the dead. Each person’s online data can be archived and the QR code hanko can function as a key to the vault. By assigning an analog method to accessing digital archives, the designer has created a poetic connection between life and afterlife.（cited from Spoon &Tamago )
